OB/GYN Sub-Internship Rotations

Criteria for MS-4 Sub-Internship Rotation

  1. Medical students may schedule a rotation with the Program Manager. Application requests may be submitted on the website annually beginning January 1st to be considered for a rotation for the following summer/fall. The 2 week or month-long rotations may be scheduled for July 1st — December 31st. Rotations will only be scheduled after December 31st if there is space available in the schedule. Once approved for the rotation, the program coordinator will request the following documents. Please only upload the transcript and board scores with the application below.

    1. Necessary Documents:

      1. Letter of Good Standing from your medical school
      2. Current certificate of medical malpractice coverage
      3. Passing Comlex and/or USMLE  on 1st attempt
      4. Current medical school transcript
      5. Headshot
    2. Necessary Screening:

      1. Successful completion of a background check
      2. Successful completion of a drug screen
    3. Information that must be provided prior to the rotation:

      1. Current immunization records (to include a seasonal influenza vaccine, proof of COVID vaccines and negative result on either a two-step TB skin test or two consecutive annual negative tests; evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella viruses, Hepatitis B vaccine, Tdap vaccine)
      2. Current CPR/BLS certification
  2. On rotation, you will see patients with our faculty and residents in the following settings:

    1. One Week Labor and Delivery: Sub-interns (“Auditioners”) will care for patients on the Labor and delivery unit, assist with vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections, evaluate patients in triage and follow patients postpartum (under appropriate supervision.)
    2. One Week Gynecology: Auditioners will assist with Gyn surgeries, Gyn consults and postoperative care (under appropriate supervision).
    3. One Week Float: Auditioners will have the same clinical responsibilities as above (Labor and Delivery and Gyn) and be assigned to patients as appropriate on the two services.
    4. One Week OB/GYN Resident Clinic: Auditioners will assist with the care of patients in our outpatient clinic, including outpatient visits, procedures and counseling (under appropriate supervision).
  3. The candidate's performance in a Sub-internship rotation will be used as criteria for consideration for acceptance into the Residency Program should a candidate subsequently apply for acceptance to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. Participation in a Sub-Internship may enhance but may not guarantee a residency interview.

  4. Unfortunately, the hospital cannot provide housing to any rotation students, however, our residents and staff may help with housing on a case-by-case basis. Local hotels and apartments are available as well. Please contact Jennifer Clark for further information.
