Annual Report for Oklahoma

SSM Health has been working to meet the needs of Oklahoma residents since our founding sisters opened the first hospital in the Oklahoma Territory more than 120 years ago. In 2022, SSM Health’s ministry in Oklahoma served the surrounding communities through a tertiary hospital in downtown Oklahoma City, a specialty orthopedic hospital, acute care facilities in Shawnee and Midwest City, a hospital campus in Seminole, five healthplexes, five urgent care centers, six managed hospitals and more than 40 multi-specialty physician clinic locations.

SSM Health provided $68,904,423 in Oklahoma community benefit for 2022.

Partnering for good nutrition

“Loaves and Fishes,” a program implemented in partnership with Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, works to fill the void for patients who are experiencing food insecurity at Family Medicine Center at SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital in Midtown Oklahoma City. Patients who are identified as food-insecure are provided with a box of non-perishable food and fresh produce – enough food for four meals for a family of four. During 2022, more than 22,000 patients were seen at the center and 1,600 food boxes were distributed to patients who screened positive for food insecurity.

A large portion of the produce is grown on an urban farm on the hospital campus. In partnership with the 8th Street Church of the Nazarene, the farm is located just outside of the Family Medicine Center, just as St. Anthony’s founding sisters once operated a farm on the hospital campus. The remaining produce is either donated to other community organizations or sold to sustain the ongoing operations of the 8th Street Urban Farm.
